Modern life can be stressful and for many people, alcohol or drugs initially seem to provide a welcome respite from everyday pressure. However, the long-term effects of dependency on drink or drugs can be catastrophic, damaging people’s health, careers, friends and families.
Employers have a responsibility to be aware of drug or alcohol as they have a pastoral responsibility for the welfare of their staff. Abuse also increases the risk of accidents potentially endangering other employees and members of the public.
